Mentally Preparing to Go Back to School

Oh man...how did summer pass by so fast? School is creeping up on us, but is anybody ready for that? I don't think any kids are ready to start waking up at 6 a.m. again, and neither are the parents who have to get up just as early to take their kids to school. And college students? They don't even know how they were able to wake up that early before, because it's pretty difficult to even wake up for a 12 p.m. class these days.

Summer is the time to relax after spending the last 9 months stressing out over papers, midterms, finals, and so much more. Some people actually might be stressing already about their college applications, constantly wishing they had more hours in the day.

So what is there to even look forward to at school? The lunch? The crowded spaces? All the work? Probably not. But let's try to look at this on a brighter note. For students, it's nice to come back to school after a long break to catch up with all the people they might not have gotten the chance to see very much over break. Maybe their friends went on vacation, or maybe they live in a different state so the only way to see them around is on college campus. Either way, friends are probably a big reason as to why school is a little bit more bearable. There's also school functions such as sports games like football and basketball games, clubs to volunteer for, and maybe you miss your extracurriculars.

Try to look at it from a glass half full perspective. If we walk into school with a terrible attitude and complain, it'll probably only be harder on our minds. Look forward to the people you'll see and the new experiences you'll create. Sorry that there's not much you can do about the time you have to wake up, but hopefully you take about a week or two before school to readjust your sleeping and eating schedule.

Don't forget to take care of yourselves!
