We never how high we are till we are called upon to rise
And then, if we are true to plan, our statures touch the sky
The Heroism we recite would be a daily thing
Did not ourselves the Cubits warp for fear to be a king
These stanzas, written by Emily Dickinson, have been rocking my world for the last couple of weeks; reminding me, again, just how precious life is. How great would it be to recite daily the heroism we see not only in others, but recognize in ourselves? How much more would we anticipate daily Divine Appointments where we could have a positive, possibly life-changing, impact in someone’s life?
We are ALL called to rise at different times in our lives. Sometimes we’re successful, sometimes not. It’s like the cowboy character played by Sam Elliott in ‘The Big Lebowski’ says, “Sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you.” But our heroism can provide us with strengths we never knew we had.
I exhort you to rise to your highest stature today.
