Is Choosing The Right Major Really That Important For Your Career?

Most people who have attended college or who are going into college end up stressing about their major at some point in time. Is it the right major for the career I want? What if I want to change majors last minute? What if I don't like the classes for this major? Will I be able to get a job with this major? I am sure there are many more questions people ask themselves regarding their major but this covers a few of them.

You might think it's essential to have everything mapped out but you really don't need to. It's great to have a plan but plans don't always go as planned. The most I portent thing to remember is that you are not tied down to your major. Its possible you might major in something that you end up not even using in your career. This almost makes it seem like college can be a waste of time, which is another topic. If you think you need to change majors halfway through schooling, then change it. Everyone is on their own path so it's okay to take the extra time. When it comes to getting a job once you graduate, it's always best to look in the field you have your degree in, but you can always branch out to experience and gain new skills that you haven't obtained in school. The main priority should be building your network with professionals across many fields so that you have options open and gain insight in other industries.

To answer the questions simply, no. It is not that important to have the perfect major or the perfect degree. Most companies just look for a college education. You will be fine!
