DATA SCIENCE: A GATEWAY TO EFFICIENT MECHANISM OF TECHNOLOGY


Data is used in many aspects these days. There is no such industry which doesn’t use data. Industries, educational institutions, government organizations, newspapers, all of these, contain data. As we are in the digital world, let’s consider data on the basis of technology.

Various areas wherein we use data in the field of science and technology:

·         We use data in programs to make an application run. Not just the application software, even the system software makes use of a specific set of instruction as a support of the system. These instructions are nothing but data.

·         Data used in robotics- the so called machine learning and artificial intelligence that is emerging at the present and so is robotics. The need for major tasks to be done is being dependent on the use of machines.

·         Research laboratories- laboratories contain a thesis about current project they are dealing with and may require the use of materials like internet, desktops, etc. All of this makes use of data in large numbers.

 

Robotics is the field that has increased its importance from the past 5 years. Earlier, robots were made in a way such that it functions according to how the programmer programs it. But in the recent years, the machine is made able to learn things by itself. Not everything is being programmed. This concept is called machine learning. The concept cannot be explained by just a two-letter word. Robotics technology is much more. We see robots in many forms.

Different robotic discoveries done recently are:

·         Drones: These are the flying objects controlled by a remote control device. It is used for various purposes. Usually drones are used to capture video and images of something controlled by human intelligence. However, each drone is programmed differently and the specifications for those are quite different. Few drones have the ability to detect different objects. It is able to track moving objects.

·         Walking robots: you must be wondering how this works. Well, it does not use GPS. The frame buffer of the robot is filled with images of the path it has to follow and consist of left and right instructions to follow the path required. This concept is used in drones as well.

What does all of this do? It stores the data the programmer feeds into the buffer. The way it is stored is handled by data science sub concepts like statistical analysis, data mining and the concept under data science that we are discussing right now is artificial intelligence which is a part of data science.

We can implement programs using many programming languages and one such language is raspberry pi (especially for robotics). It uses the concept of IoT, cloud computing, etc. All of this involves the technique of knowing how you deal with the data that you want to handle.

It is emerging in various fields like health care and transportation, education, etc. The need for knowledge about dealing with such vast and complex data becomes an important aspect.
