War Veteran Daphne Dunne, 'Biggest Fan' of Prince Harry, Passed Away at 99

War veteran Daphne Dunne, has died after a two-month battle with pneumonia. Dunne, the longstanding royal fan from Australia, died at the Sydney Adventist Hospital on Monday, three days after her 99th birthday.

Prince Harry met Daphne Dunne for the first time in 2015. The war widow's first husband Lieutenant Albert Chowne, died age 25 in 1945 during an attack on a Japanese machinegun post in Papua New Guinea.

He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross which Dunne wore when she first met Harry.

The Victoria Cross is the highest and most prestigious award of the British honours system. It is awarded for gallantry "in the presence of the enemy" to  members of the British Armed Forces.

On her Instagram page, Dunne's family wrote: "We love you mum/nanna/Daphne, always and forever."
