On the road with books.
The best places, for me, to enjoy reading a good book is on the road, traveling. No projects, to do lists, distractions from everyday chores. I typically read books related to the places I am at. Michener’s “Chesapeake” while sailing my boat up the East coast, Amy Tan and her wonderful books of old China while sharing a sleeping train car with a few Chinese strangers, and now, someplace that is not home, reading Mark Twains, “Letters from Hawaii”. If there is any book that can make me home sick, this is the one. Samuel Clemens, “Mark Twain” wrote about the South Kona coffee farming area, where we live, wanting the world to know that he found his paradise. The best oranges and coffee he has ever tasted (must have found our trees), the waters and reefs so warm and beautiful (sounds like our front yard). Makes me wonder why we leave at all. I am looking forward to the other reads I have and the special places I will enjoy them.
Aloha
