Endangered Species- Desert Animals

Hello there everyone! Today's post is going to be focusing on desert animals.

Gazelle

The dama gazelle is considered critically endangered due to over hunting and loss of their habitat due to livestock competition.

Humans cut down the branches of the trees on which these gazelles feed. As a result, the trees die and the gazelle cannot eat. Human threats are the most dangerous of threats to the dama gazelle.

Addax

The addax is a critically endangered species of antelope, as classified by the IUCN. Although extremely rare in its native habitat due to unregulated hunting, it is quite common in captivity. The addax was once abundant in North Africa, native to Chad, Mauritania and Niger.

The greatest threat to Addax is a man as locals hunt them without any limits or supervision. Addax are slow moving animals so they are easy targets for hunters in their jeeps armed with modern weaponry. Their habitats are often being destroyed to make more for more farming or residential land. There are also natural factors such as droughts and desertification.
