Finals Week

It is my college's summer finals week! Luckily for me, two of my classes officially ended last week with a regular class exam instead of a cumulative final. So this week I simply had one final to take for my last class. I usually stress moreover exams than the average person, because I do not test well. I feel like exams are not a true depiction of what the student knows, they give me anxiety and I freak out and over thing the questions even though I consciously and subconsciously know the answer. So my exam was yesterday and it was in managerial statistics, which for an entertainment marketing major I don't understand why I need to take it but I did. The exam was supposed to be cumulative covering material from all 10 weeks of class, and it definitely was. Maybe a little too much. There were 14 questions to the exam and about nine of them were from the first five weeks of the class. Which was material we were tested on during the mid-term so why put so much focus on them during the final? Anyways, the final was scheduled for two hours, and it took me about an hour to do my exam. I don't feel OVERLY confident about it, I'm hoping my professor curves it the say she did our midterm. I just need a C in the class to pass and not have to retake it. While two of my classes are technically over, one of my classes offers an optional exam.

This optional exam is cumulative vs only on the chapters recently covered like the other exams in this class. The upside to taking the option exam is that if a student has taken all the previous quizzes and exams during the session, then there is the option that this final grade can replace a previous lower exam grade. Which is nice, but if for some reason, a student takes the exam and does worse than there is no harm or foul, the lowest exam grade gets dropped and if it happens to be the 'final' one then so be it. Which basically guarantees the best grade no matter what.

I prepare for finals week by reviewing my own class notes, going over lecture notes, scrolling through class slides/presentations and reviewing the book. I also try to get together with classmates and form study groups, so that we can discuss and review material that one person might be struggling in and so we can bounce ideas off one another. I do not study for more than a few hours at a time partly because I get bored, but also because at a certain point, the mind becomes overloaded and further studying is unproductive. Finals weeks is a stressful time, but once you're done, you're done. No more stressing, nothing you can do about the grade at that point. Time to relax and enjoy the free time.
