Laker's 2019 Free Agency

With the NBA free agency just a mere 2 days away, one can expect major roster changes throughout the league. The Laker's especially have made breaking news the past couple of weeks. With the recent signing of Anthony Davis, many league commentators, enthusiasts and social media have been speculating the Laker's to be a dominant force in the Western Conference this upcoming season.

However, with only LeBron James and Anthony Davis (A.D.) as the Laker's marquee players, many have speculated to how the Laker's would fill out the rest of their roster. They have recently made room for a another max contract player with A.D. waiving his trade bonus clause. As soon as this happened, there was news that Kawhi Leonard (2019 NBA Finals MVP) would hold a meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers. If the Lakers do end up signing another max contract free agent, then it would leave little to no space to sign other role players. They would in turn need to sign veteran players at the veteran minimum.

The other route would be to sign 3-4 role players who can defend the perimeter and shoot the 3-pointer. With how the league has changed and evolved over the past years, it is crucial for other role players to spread the floor (with their potential to shoot the 3) and allow LeBron and A.D. to have room to operate. Some notable players who fit this category would be: Danny Green, J.J. Reddick and Trevor Ariza. Just as a side note, Danny Green came as a package with Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors this past season, thus if Lakers were to land Kawhi, obtaining Danny Green might be easier. J.J. Reddick on the other hand might demand way more money than just a veteran minimum so that might deplete the Laker's salary cap more than expected. Finally, Trevor Ariza would be a great pick up, but he has played with the Lakers before and many players (like D'Angelo Russell) might feel some way of having a team try to pick them up after having traded them.

No matter what happens, this years free agents are among some of the best the league has to offer as a bunch in awhile. If any of you are as interested as I am, make sure to stay updated and posted on the changes coming to the league.
