Cardan shafts are the most popular way of joining together two components of a machinery. They are ideal for creating an extended movement that can be used to transmit power and data to a remote location. The most common type of cardan shaft is called a hypoid (or epicycloidal) shaft because it is shaped like a circle with the diameter twice the length of the minor axis.
