Does the vagina tighten with time?

The vagina is a female’s sexual organ that is flexible enough to go through different types of stretching over a lifetime period. The stretching can be due to tampon insertion, sexual intercourse, or delivering a baby. After any of these changes in the vagina, it is designed to return to its original state every time.

Any activities that cause women to arouse sexually can start the process of loosening the vagina to a certain degree. It is a part of female sexual health that a vagina gets wet and prepares for penetration by relaxing the muscles. It helps a healthy vagina to enter an erect penis.

Most women who stay sexually inactive for an extended period are likely to experience a tight vagina. Not having sex regularly can make the vagina shorter and narrower. It makes intercourse difficult and painful for them as a contracted vagina does not let a penis enter in a comfortable way. The possible reasons include:

● Anxiety

Anxiety can affect female sexual health and a female’s relationship with her partner in a significant way. A woman usually feels anxious when she is in a new relationship or thinks about having sex with a new partner. The anxiety condition can create problems for you and your vagina to relax and feel comfortable about sex.

● Insufficient lubrication

A poorly lubricated vagina can result in a tight vagina. A sufficient amount of lubrication is essential for having comfortable intercourse. The causes of inadequate lubrication include anxiety, menopause, lack of foreplay, etc. All of them contribute to the tightening of the vagina. During menopause, the hormone changes can cause vaginal dryness or atrophy. It ultimately damages the healthy cells of the vagina, making it sensitive.

What should you do if you feel your vagina is too tight to have comfortable sex?

Increase duration of foreplay

Foreplay allows the woman’s vagina to get ready for sex. It usually takes up to half an hour or even more to get aroused. Foreplay includes kissing, hugging, touching, stimulating genitals, etc., before having intercourse.

Increase communication with your partner

Communication is the key to better understanding. It is possible that your partner does not realize your body needs unless you tell him. It will help to have an effective relationship both sexually and emotionally.

Increase the use of lubricants

Lubricants can help with the problems such as vaginal dryness or insufficient vaginal lubrication. Lubricants are oil-based, silicone-based, or water-based.
