Actually, the original intent of the 2nd Amendment is that we're supposed to have the right to ANY AND ALL MILITARY GRADE ARMS. It does not say "hunting rifles". It specifically uses the phrase ARMS, and that is intentional. Just like "Janes" guides to ARMS. EVERYTHING in those guides is specifically covered by the 2nd Amendment. The phrase "well regulated" refers to specific language from General Washington near the end of the war, when the REGULAR armies were depleted, the reserves were depleted, and he had to rely on DRAFTED men who, as citizens, were considered part of the de-facto last-resort militia. Washington had just received STATE OF THE ART MILITARY GRADE RIFLES from France, and when the draftees showed up at the front they had no experience with them. Instead of putting the draftees directly into battle, he needed to WAIT until they were trained and then declared reasonably enough proficient to use them in battle. Washington wanted to insure that no future general ever experienced that problem, so ALL CITIZENS needed to have ACCESS to MILITARY GRADE ARMS and be able to be well-regulated in their use. Well-regulated = WELL PRACTICED THROUGH REGULAR USE. Really it's been the NRA that has made the 2nd Amendment seem like a defense for Hunters, because it largely caters to hunters. The the actual 2nd Amendment purpose is to have the regular citizenry ARMED with MILITARY GRADE WEAPONS so that no government, tyrant, or enemy can EVER overwhelm the power of a militia that compromises of ordinary citizens across the nation. In fact, when Switzerland and Israel developed their Constitutions, they used ours as a model, and it's why all citizens of Israel are REQUIRED to serve in the military, and why there are Swiss chalets where ORDINARY CITIZENS have tanks and anti-aircraft missiles in their garages, and fully automatic weapons in their closets. The 2nd Amendment ISN'T ABOUT HUNTING. It's about citizens being READY TO BE DRAFTED AT A MOMENT'S NOTICE and being fully prepared to show up with THEIR OWN WEAPONS to do battle against any enemy, foreign or domestic.
