Know why waxing surfboards is necessary before going surfing!

Surfing is a water sport wherein surfers do a lot of strenuous exercise along with care and tend to take some extra precautions to avoid accidents. For a better surf experience, a good surfboard must be used, and here’s when surf wax comes into view as it helps surfers Surfing Nicaragua control the grip on their surfboard. Since the primary purpose of wax is to provide traction, the surfer needs to look for the perfect wax that is quite sticky.

Moreover, various types of wax are suited to different water temperatures. Nowadays, many natural surf waxes that are made with biodegradable non-toxic ingredients are available if the surfer prefers something natural. Mentioned below are some steps on how to wax surfboards:

1.     Cleaning and removing old wax: Firstly, the surfboard must be placed in the sun in such a way that the waxed side must face the sky. It must be kept for at least 20 minutes in the hot sun before the mineral wax is applied. Mineral spirits are taken into use to loosen up the old wax that was already applied.

2.     Applying basecoat: This is one of the most important steps wherein the surfboard is waxed. The main aim of the basecoat is to form a permanent coating of hard wax upon which the lighter topcoat gets stick. Usually, the basecoat tends to last for a longer period of time, but it may have a more difficult application. Knowledge about the right amount of pressure to use is very necessary so that the basecoat can get applied properly.

3.     Topcoat wax: The layer of wax that is applied on the base or foundation of the surfboard is known as the top coat wax. It has an easier application than basecoat given that it must have a different shade than the latter. The surfer needs to assure that they select the accurate temperature wax as per the water wherein they will be surfing with some Surf Camps Nicaragua. However, if an extensive quantity of wax is used, then the surf can turn out to be harder.

4.     Temperature: Most of the surf waxes usually come with a temperature rating that relates to the adhesiveness of the wax and thus it plays a key role as it affects the performance. The temperature where the surfer would be surfing also depends on season and location. For surfers staying in dense tropical areas, a board with a higher temperature is required whereas, for surfers surfing in cooler regions, a separate climate wax is needed.

5.     Wax-combing: When the wax begins losing its grip, a surf comb is used to draw some marks within the old wax to attain traction. Although wax combs aren’t needed for either wax removal or application, several surfers find them useful and admit that they cater for a more reliable surfing session.

To sum up, when it’s about getting into Surf Camps Central America, many surfers tend to wax their boards at least once a month. The surfer must get into the habit of waxing their board once a month as it gets necessary. At last, there's no harm in waxing the board unless it gets over-waxed causing issues.
