There is a place on this planet that you can live in the aftermath of an EMP/CME, Economic collapse and live well. We did not plan this, but retiring to the big island and buying a five acre farm, listening to your program, and realizing we are in a good spot.
Retired Firefighter, jack of all trades, multi national (New York/Beijing), we have decided to write this letter.
Think of a place that has an endless supply of water, food, power, great weather, seclusion (not isolation), and still be in America. Our farm is on the Western slope of the largest mountain in the world, Mauna Loa Volcano.
We have to many fruit trees to name, vegetables and nuts do not know any season, the sun shines almost 100% of the time to make power and heat water. We get 150 inches of night rain to keep our 15,000 gal water tanks full. We live on the edge of a forest to provide fuel and food. Wild cows, pigs, goats (my favorite), turkeys, chickens, and a blue Pacific Ocean that seems to have an endless supply of fish for us to just take.
When I listen to your Guest talk about Prepping, I want to shout from our high ground,(armed), its is all about location, location location. Our money crop is Kona Coffee, I had my first cup of coffee at age 52(now 63). What a great commodity to have for trade. No one wants to give up that morning cup, so hunters, fisherman; trades people will do almost anything to get their fix. One pound of coffee will get us the two back legs of a goat or a 30 lb yellow fin tuna. The bye product of coffee can make ethanol, moon shine, fertilizer to grow more food. The Bio-system here in Hawaii has been used for 2000 years to grow and sustain and entire culture. So that is just the tip of the coconut, our life and farm evolves year after year. If the end comes, we will only know because the internet has gone off, maybe a few less tourists down in Kealakekua Bay.
