The Holy Communion is a Christian practice
instituted by Jesus Christ when He had the last supper with His disciples. As
Christians, we partake it to remember His great sacrifice on the cross. The
Bible states in Mat 26:26-28, "While they were eating, Jesus took bread,
gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and
eat; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and offered it
to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the
covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
However, many Christians take the Holy Communion
just to fulfil the Christian ritual as a church practice and do not know the
benefits of partaking in this vital practice. Let's take a look at the benefits
of taking Holy Communion.
Forgiveness
When we partake the holy communion, we are renewing
our covenant with Jesus Christ once again. In the book of Luke 22:20, Jesus
reminds us that the cup is the new covenant between God and His people. The cup
signifies His blood, which was poured out as a sacrifice for us and ultimately
brought forgiveness of sins.
Brings Healing
Once a Christian gets born again, the Bible states
that we become whole in Christ. Holy Communion is another avenue to receive
wholeness and healing. During the crucifixion, Jesus took all our sicknesses
and disease away. The Bible states, "By His stripes, we are healed."
Christians who believe and have faith in the power of the cross have testified
of illnesses being taken away through partaking the holy communion.
Helps us to self-examine
One of the crucial aspects, as we participate in the
holy communion, is self-examination. Before the communion
cups and wafers are distributed, there is time allocated to look within
ourselves. This is a time to forgive those who have wronged us, evaluate our
intentions, and how we are living out our faith. This self-examination draws us
closer to God.
We are promised eternal
life
The holy communion goes beyond just an ordinary
meal. It is a promise of eternal life. The Bible in John 6:54 states that
"Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will
raise them up at the last day."
Brings revival to the
body of Christ
Taking the holy communion shows that we revere God.
It shows that we, as Christians, remember Jesus Christ and have heeded to His
command as He asked of us, "Do this in remembrance of me." Reverance
to God is a powerful aspect in a Christian's life because it is the key to
unlocking the door to revival to your life and the body of Christ as a whole.
This rings true to churches that revere communion as well.
Gives us an identity
When we partake the body of Christ, we show that we
identify with Him and in Him. It shows that we recognize the great sacrifice He
took on our behalf.
