Katya Akuma, an Influencer of Change

Akuma uses her platform and influence in the fashion industry to promote social change through nonprofit activities and activations.

A visionary woman leading the fashion industry by social change, innovation and initiatives, Katya Akuma shows persistence and the power of partnerships. 


Propelling the winds of change, her words and work have tangible impact on the fashion industry. Founder of Council for Fashion and Social Change, Akuma is defining what it looks like to interlink a Corporate Social Responsibility through collaboration. After four years of the face of CFSC, her voice is only getting louder, backed by top brands in the industry and helping a vast portfolio nonprofit organizations and charities. Akuma sets a blueprint for others that follow her lead as she facilitates a makes a difference in the industry. 


The influencer takes to her Instagram account, @katyaakuma, to join movements to bring about awareness to causes such as sustainability and social change to her Instagram following. Throughout her career, she has consistently spoken up for the underrepresented, and highlighted instances of discrimination in society. Bring about humanitarian relief through CFSC partnerships, Akuma is always ready to take a stance. 


One of the most important issues Akuma stands behind is anti- trafficking as seen with her numerous cooperation with Beauty for Freedom. As one of its mentors, Akuma was instrumental in orchestrating and mobilizing anti-trafficking movements and campaigns. 


Motivated by creating a social change she shifts gears and has worked to rehabilitate refugee and human trafficking survivors. If there is a voice we can trust, it is hers, acting as the megaphone to the voices of victims and survivors. She has also provided educational relief to artisans in Haiti and India along with locally supporting design graduates into job placements in the industry.


With an eye to spot out talent, Akuma works with emerging designers through her work as a fashion consultant or as founder of CFSC. Akuma supports graduate designers through her nonprofit organization and helps them land roles at fashion houses such as Tadashi Shoji. 


Akuma has proved what power lies in partnership as well as how women such as Akuma are crucial in leading the industry into a sustainable direction through supporting the corporate social responsibilities of brands and organizations.


The activist is also an artist turned fashion designer; the Parson’s alumna is New York based where she heads her nonprofit organization, CFSC. Deeply engrossed of all aspects of fashion, she attends the fashion week circuit covering New York, London, Milan and Paris every season. Alongside her famous father, renown fashion photographer Artur Koff, she co-founded 4TO4U, a digital fashion photography archive, acting as Editor-in-Chief.


Using social media, she promotes sustainability, social change and responsibility, and does her part to transform ideas, connections and issues at large. She reinvents the term influencer with her passion to change the world through fashion. Revolving around the industry in so many ways as a designer, connector, advocate and activist, Akuma stays on the pulse of change and creativity.
