A few health benefits of Turmeric and Curcumin

Turmeric ranks among the most effective spice in the world. When used in nutritional supplements, it helps in weight loss and promotes the benefits of antioxidants in the body.

Numerous studies have proven the benefits of turmeric curcumin weight loss

Now let us have a look at it.

1. Turmeric is rich with biologically active compounds

Turmeric is a spice that gives curry its symbolic golden yellow color (sunshine hue). Used in India for thousands of years as both a spice and a medicinal herb, its health benefits are boundless.

Scientific research has started backing up the benefits of turmeric and has proved what the Indians said about its medicinal uses.

Curcuminoids are the active compounds present in turmeric, of which the main one is known as curcumin.

It has anti-inflammatory effects and very strong antioxidant properties. Turmeric contains only 3% of curcumin.

Most studies on turmeric are conducted using extracts like curcumin. The dosage used was 1 gram a day.

Those who wish to have full effects of turmeric are advised to use supplements containing curcumin.

2. Curcumin fights inflammation

Inflammation is important. However, it is considered harmful when it goes out of control. It is considered useful whenever pathogens like bacteria attack the body and try causing a harmful infection.

Scientists are now of the belief that low-level and chronic inflammation plays a major role in treating each chronic ailment. Among them are cancer, heart disease, metabolic disorders, Alzheimer’s and other degenerative conditions affecting humans.

Turmeric plays a key role in controlling inflammation and thus in preventing chronic illnesses. Curcumin is a strong anti-inflammatory compound that fights inflammations properly. This quality of curcumin matches the effectiveness of some renowned medicines that fight inflammation.

3. Turmeric raises the levels of antioxidants

Damage to the body caused by oxidants is known to cause aging and many other diseases. They are free radicals, which are highly reactive molecules having unpaired electrons.

When free radicals come into contact with organic tissue such as fatty acids, DNA or protein; they cause adverse reactions (among them being aging).

Antioxidants protect the body from free radicals. Curcumin is potent and is rich with antioxidants. It helps neutralize free radicals due to its strong chemical structure.

It thus raises the body’s own antioxidant enzymes and delivers strong defense against free radicals. It also stimulates the body’s own antioxidant defenses.
