Do you ever go to the movies and just take in all the vivid sounds, views, and different smells in the theater. Except every single thing you want to hear, see, and smell is wrong.
Instead, the "sounds" you hear are kids or babies crying, people not whispering to their friends but speaking quite loudly, and unnecessary clapping when people see something "epic" happen.
The "views" you see are the lights shining from people who didn't even bother to dim their phone, people standing up and blocking your view to go to the bathroom, and people throwing popcorn around and making a huge mess.
Finally, the "smells" you end up smelling is this weird combination of fresh and stale popcorn and sweaty people near you. Now, I understand that we can't always predict how a movie theater will smell and we should prepare for that. However, I vividly remember going to the movie theater with my sister when I was younger and a man behind us sticking his bare foot in between us to use our arm rest as his personal footrest. I honestly had no words. I was too shy at the time to say anything, but I guess I was lucky to have my sister around who didn't even need to use her words to get him to remove his foot. She had absolutely no patience for this man and actually slapped his foot away. Surprisingly, he didn't say anything.
So if he didn't say anything and probably knew that what he was doing was rude, why do people do all these impolite things that they wouldn't usually do in broad daylight, but somehow in this intimate setting in the darkness with strangers it's suddenly okay? That is what bothers me.
To be honest, I understand that sometimes parents just want to bring their kids to the movies to enjoy themselves a bit, and people can't help it when they really need to use the restroom. I won't argue too much about that. But if you're going to use your phone on the brightest setting and talk instead of just whispering to your friend, you might as well just wait until the movies out on Netflix and watch it at home.
I personally do enjoy going to the movies every now and then. However, if the tickets are too expensive and I know it will be overcrowded and loud, I think I just might end up opting out and wait to watch it in the comfort of my own home. At least I can pause the movie if I ever need a bathroom break or want to go grab a snack.
