The Sweet Life

My youngest daughter tends bar while she attends school to be a Social Worker. In some ways she’s doing the same thing now without a degree as she’ll be doing with one. But that’s another story for another time.

As I sometimes do, I went to see her at work to get a hug, a kiss and a, “I love you dad!” Which is way better than anything in a bottle. As I bellied up to her bar, she asked me if I wanted anything. I remembered an old pleasure, Chambord, and asked for one, neat.

I took a sip and the noise of the bar dropped away along with a few years and a few more pounds. I smiled at the taste and the sweet memories that came to mind. I sat, sipped my liqueur, listened to the sound of my dear daughter talk and wished I could shed the last few years in reality as easily as in my mind.

There’s nothing better than staring into the eyes of someone you love, listening to her tales and her laughter while feeling the warmth of her smile to make this life the best it can be. Unless it’s all those things along with a glass of Chambord raspberry liqueur, 16.5% abv.

Hey bartender, how about another round. Keep it neat, but throw in another hug and a kiss.

I love you Whitney!
