When you move into an apartment,
there are some responsibilities that a landlord is supposed to maintain to make
sure that you have an enjoyable time. Just like they expect you to pay your ret
to them on time and keep quiet and not disturb others while you live there, you
will expect them to handle the maintenance and some of the repairs that need to
be done while you live there. The longer you live in the apartment, the more
likely it is that you will need something done around the apartment and failing to report these to the landlord is a bad idea as a tenant.
When checking out the place that you
would like to rent, you also need to take the time to check out the condition
of everything from the plumbing, the appliances, and more, are all in proper
condition. If something is not working well, you do not want to move in until
it is all fixed. There may be a time when you walk through the apartment and
notice that one or two things will need repaired. That is not necessarily a bad
thing, but report them as soon as possible.
Some tenants are going to mistake
not reporting issues like a faulty socket that no longer works, a door handle
that breaks, and a clogged sink. They assume that these are not a big problem,
and then they ignore it, assuming that it will get better. But this can be a
bad idea and may be a sign of a bigger problem. If the landlord doesn’t know
about it, they are not able to make it better.
When the damage is really big and
you live there, then you could be the one responsible for it. If the landlord
denies claim to the faulty thing, you may have to cover the cost of maintenance
from the security deposit, especially if you ignored the problem and didn’t
report it early enough for the landlord to do something about it. Make sure
from the start that everything is working well and have the landlord fix
anything that breaks right away.
