Canadian Woman First on $10 Bill

Making a popular and positive step in furthering and promoting both women's rights and civil rights, Canada’s currency will feature its first Canadian woman: civil rights activist Viola Desmond. Desmond, who was arrested for refusing to leave the “whites-only” section of a cinema in 1946, will be pictured on the new $10 bill. Desmond is credited with starting the civil rights movement in Canada. She passed away in 1965, but her sister, Wanda Robson, attended the unveiling of the note. “It’s beyond what I ever thought,” she told the crowd.

I want to offer a huge thank you to Canada for this bold and decisive move!
