Sea transportation - is one of
the oldest options for the movement of goods and people, which has not lost its
relevance in the present. Of all the means of moving goods that existed in
ancient times, only ships continue to work on the sea and river routes of the
world. In this blog, we are going to let
you know about types of vessels that are used for sea freight. Let’s have a look
1. Container Ships
Designed for transporting
products in containers of standard sizes. A distinctive feature of
container ships, it is a large open deck area above the holds. The design
of the grips is a vertically located
space with special guides installed (cell
guides) for securing and placing containers.
2. Rollers
The category of ships for the
transport of goods that can be unloaded by a horizontal option. Such
vessels are mainly used for the sea
transportation of vehicles, trailers, container trucks with semi-trailers and goods manned on euro-pallets, while loading and
unloading which require ro-ro fork-type forklifts. Rollers with their
design and appearance are very similar to ferries
but without the presence of living space.
The loading and unloading of the Rockers are
carried out with the help of a ramp with good
carrying capacity and reliably connects the ship’s side to the pier. In
some cases, when loading containers especially when it comes to transport
companies in Dubai whereroll-overs, their upper deck is used on the principle of container ships, which
contributes to an increase in the number and volume of cargo transportation.
3. Bulk Carrier
This
ship is designed for transporting bulk cargo. The design of bulk carriers
consists of several holds with a large volume and unique covers. The main advantage of the bulk carriers is the
versatility and small expenses for the movement of goods by sea.
4. Likhterovoznye
Category
of the vessel, specially designed for transportation in lighters (one of the
types of non-self-propelled marine barge used for transportation using a
tugboat). Lighter-carrying vessels
have found their application in the sea-river mixed cargo
movement. Lighters with a heavy load with a shallow draft can be dragged along shallow rivers and canals over
long distances deep into the continent, and upon completion of unloading in the
same way they can be returned with a
lightweight carrier. They are considered a worthy alternative to cargo
ships and can increase the productivity of loading and unloading operations by
more than five to ten times. Also, the use of lighter carriers reduces the
time of the vessel's stay and reduces the material costs for the construction
of port structures.
5. Dry Cargo
This
is a category of vessels used to transport piece goods in packages that do not
require special conditions and therefore
is considered a general cargo. In practice, dry cargo is used to transport heavy and small loads. The
design of dry cargo vessels is similar to bulk carriers - there are also holds
with special hatches. The difference between bulk carriers and bulk
carriers is the presence on the deck of their loading, and unloading crane of the manipulator mounted directly on the deck.
6. Tanker
This
is a large vessel used to transport liquid cargo (chemical and petroleum products,
liquefied gas, wine, and even cement mortar). For loading and unloading of
goods on tankers, a special pumping
system is used, and there are tanks for the cargo being
transported - tanks. The hull of such a vessel is sheathed with special metal sheets that give shape to the tanker and divide it
into separate compartments filled with bulk cargoes.
The safe conditions of
transportation and the protection of cargo from spills, deterioration, and ingress of water provide a double metal bottom and a thick side of the vessel. The main part of tankers for transporting liquid
cargo is universal, which makes it possible to transport
various bulk cargoes simultaneously. Ships with a large carrying capacity can transport about 320,000 tons of oil at a time, which is equivalent
to more than five railway tanks.
For highly specialized vessels are gas
carriers with a spherical shape of cargo space, towering above the deck of
the ship. They are endowed with the
necessary technical characteristics and can
maintain a high level of pressure.
