Island Boy

Island Boy

I have come to the conclusion that I need to be surrounded by water.

Maybe because our bodies are mostly water, we are the water planet, or it is just safer to drive around and end up where you started.

I grew up on Long Island, NY, have settled on the Big Island of Hawaii. In between, I have spent along time not living on an Island, but constantly looking for one.

The magic of 29 acres in Tavarua, Fiji was a dream for 14 years, but a small, remote little island in the Sulu sea, Sibutu Island, a few miles off the coast of Borneo was my greatest find. In a time that the words Isis, Taliban, Islamic extremist did not exist, this was an all Muslim village; I stayed for a few months. The hospitality was overwhelming. I remember the greeting from the mayor when stepping off the boat, “You are the first white person on this island in a long time. The last was a German U-Boat captain looking for water in 1942”. I found these pictures that bring back memories of a different world, but in the same, nothing has change.
