Water-Boy

I was born in the cold of February, under the sign of the Fish, on an Island. Was I destine to be a water-boy?

I have been in and out of the ocean my whole life, as late as yesterday. A natural fit for me was becoming a surfer. Now I remember all the people that I use to surf with, I would hope they still do, but a passion took over me to the point that I do not function well with out a Regular Ocean fix. All of that fit well into my working, playing, life. I have met many like me, so I am not odd, but we as a group might be.

I remember the first time I put a mask on and stuck my head under water. It was cold, visibility maybe 1 foot at Roosevelt Beach, Oyster  bay, NY, I was 7 years old, I was hooked. The rest is just story after story, around the world, work related to everything ocean. Even as a firefighter, beach town, so many rescues ocean related, retirement, and Hawaii lifeguard.

It was fun growing up on an Island, nothing but adventure, even now.

Basically, Mike Nelson (Sea Hunt), Swiss Family Robinson, Gilligan, Robinson Crusoe, Treasure Island all rolled into a dedicated, ocean loving Pisces that lives on an Island again.

Sailing and building boats was a natural fit for this water-boy.

When I think back about how I pulled all that off, never losing focus, it comes down to a commitment to myself, to my passion, and relationships that complimented this way of life. I am very lucky, blessed, and I worked hard at, even to this day.

Bang Bang's.......Indian Ocean

As a lifeguard, this is how we got to work.

Tavarua, Fiji. 14 years as a guest/boatman. Life was changed forever.

Little older, better mask, better visibility.

Not a day goes by I do not reflect back on my lifes path and what the future holds.
