K-POP Sensations: BlackPink

BlackPink were one of the more known artists who performed at the Coachella Music Festival this year. As a Korean girl-group, they surpassed expectations and set new records ever since debuting in 2016. Many Korean pop artists are not able to be as successful as BlackPink is on a global scale. Personally, I would love to go see one of their concerts and I felt extra guilty for not buying Coachella tickets just to go see them perform. BlackPink is the first k-pop group to perform at this big music festival and this goes to show how loved they are by international fans especially in the United States. Many celebrities were quick to introduce themselves to BlackPink and even taking photos with the girls. Some of these celebrities include: Diplo, Khalid, Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, and even Ariana Grande. As the girls performed their hit song Ddu-du-ddu-du, the crowd went wild and many of them were hyped for this song. Their unique selling point is their attention to fashion and their iconic dance moves to their hit songs. If you search them up on YouTube, you can see that each music video released has at least 300 million views. Their most popular song, according to YouTube, is Boombayah which has over 600 million views in just two years. BlackPink consists of Jennie, Lisa, Rose, and Jisoo. BlackPink is quite different from most k-pop groups because majority of their members were born and raised in a different country. Majority of the group happen to be bilingual and continues to surprise fans as they try to learn more languages in order to communicate common phrases such as "I love you" or "Are you guys having a great time?" The group has high potential to become the best korean-pop girl group on the decade and set new bars for those who hope to follow in their footsteps. I hope each member stays strong and overcome any obstacles that impede their way.
